So, yes, do your best, but dying is actually beneficial in Inscryption's world.Īs mentioned above, dying unlocks new content. Notably, you'll get access to new cards, mechanics, and the ability to solve some of the Secrets in the cabin. When you die, you start to unlock new mechanics. You can get past that with careful planning, but most players likely won't.

If you take a life off of one of the bosses too quickly, they'll get two full rows of Grizzly Bears with four attack power and six life. However, doing so will cause you to miss out on a lot of what makes the game special.įortunately, developer Dan Mullin has put in a mechanic that makes it tough for beginners to beat Act 1 on their first try. The actual deck-building side of the game isn't overly difficult if you have experience in the genre. You can absolutely blast through Inscryption if you know what you're doing.

You need to learn what each of these does to make the most out of your cards. In the example above, you can see the Skunk has a Sigil that looks like a smelly heaping of poo. Some cards come with special abilities called Sigils. Mixing these together can make for some powerful decks Blood Sacrifices you have to use on that turn, Bones stay with you until the battle is over. These serve a similar purpose, but stay with you. Careful planning is key to success, especially in your first few runs before you unlock more mechanics.Īfter a run or two, you'll also unlock bones. Obviously, you can't play those main deck cards without anything to sacrifice, but you also won't be hurting the enemy without Squirrels to kill. This provides the delicate balance of deciding whether to draw from your main deck or the Squirrel deck at the start of your turn. Squirrels don't have an attack power naturally (though you can add that later), so they won't deal any damage. Essentially, every card you place on the board can be sacrificed to lay down more powerful cards.įor your first move, you'll want to place a Squirrel and then sacrifice it to get something more powerful out on the board. For your first few runs, this is the main mechanic for laying down cards. The first thing you'll learn out of the gate is how Blood Sacrifices work.
